Previously, if a car buyer was considering a custom order purchase, it generally meant that it was a rare car or they were looking for something specific. Either way, the car buyers were happy to pay for the benefit of getting something unique, even if they knew it would probably take additional time to complete the order. The appeal of purchasing a unique car canceled out the extended wait time vs. getting a new car from the local inventory. Fast forward to today, and the car-buying landscape has changed dramatically. Gone are the days of rows of new vehicles to pick from, so if you want something unique, then buying directly from the manufacturer is your best option. If you need a car and can’t wait for a special order, then buying from the available vehicles on the lot is still your best choice.
The fun part of custom ordering is that you can select the exact features you need. You can order your car with leather seating, the big navigation screen, and AWD, and it can be your lucky color: blue! In the past, you might have needed to compromise on your wishlist depending on cars that were in stock. You may be able to get all of the features you wanted, but it was in a color you didn’t like. Or they had AWD, but it had cloth seats instead of leather. When you custom order, you can get exactly what you want.
When you think about it, by ordering your brand-new car from the manufacturer, you don’t pay for the technology you don’t want. Maybe you needed Navigation and All-Wheel Drive but didn’t care about the vehicle color or leather seating. While you might not be able to individually order every option ala carte, yet by ordering your brand-new car, you can cut down on the pricey options. Be sure to check out any option packages, as they often have popular upgrades together at a lower price.
